My experience was with hand surgeon Eric Young. The office interview was great; he was kind, patient and intelligent but not arrogant - refreshingly. I thought we communicated and understood one another well. He promised to fulfill or completely avoid the issues I was strongly concerned about, even writing them down for his file (I thought) and everything was fine until (days later) the pre-op team wheeled me into the o.r. for the actual finger surgery - where Dr. Young was bouncing off the walls like Tigger on steroids. From then on literally everything was one long, painful nightmare. Dr. Young did NOTHING he promised and everything he promised not to, and cared so little he couldn't be bothered to return calls or provide ANY pain relief I was not allergic to. When he finally did call me, he just chuckled and said "Well, I guess you'll just have to be in pain then. Have a nice weekend!" and hung up on me. Pain management and care? - ditto for the hospital staff. I was in instant sheer agony after surgery, the surgical finger a hot, pulsating, pathetic mess. But no pain meds for me; young miss nurse said I did not need any. She consistently angrily told me to stop crying and to "hush!" and opened my little recovery cell curtains so everyone could see my distress, then she told me I was being too rude to her, as if it were my job to make her happy. Finally she called (thankfully) a different nurse who soon let me go home. I have followed the entire complaint process, had nothing but wrong info and spite from the hospital, its CEO and its risk management dept., while they lied, committed significant records/reports fraud and billed for pain meds I never received. More than a year later, after upgraded insurance premiums, expert surgeon consults, physical therapy and constant follow-up home physical therapy, the little finger is now again regressing to the pitiful shape it was in after the botched surgery. I've heard nothing from Dr. Young, the hospital refuses to compensate me one penny for the extra costs I've had to bear trying and fix the problems they were complicit in causing; and I am out of options with a worse off finger than it was before. This is why American medicine is despised universally and rates about 37th in the world. Don't go to a surgeon at COHS, and don't have surgery at McKee Medical Center, unless you want a lifetime of pain and regrets. Just my two-cents of warning.
