I live in Northwest Indiana and recently purchased a used 2000 Subaru Outback. The seller provided me with receipts showing the transmission had been rebuilt and the timing belt/water pump replacements had been done within the past 10,000 miles. A short time after purchasing it I discovered it needed the head gaskets replaced (a common issue with Subarus). I checked around the area I live for someone with reasonable experience at doing the job but had no luck including the local Subaru dealer (I spoke with three of their techs and only one had ever done the job and they quoted starting price $2800). I spend a fair amount of time in Colorado where Subarus are everywhere so I decided to look in Colorado. After some searching and investigation I decided to have Marcy's Automotive do the job. So on a recent trip to Colorado I stopped in Evergreen, Colorado, at Marcy's shop and had the head gaskets replaced. Their quoted price was about half of that of my local Subaru dealer and they did the job in one day. While doing the job they found when the transmission job was done an exhaust support bracket was not reinstalled on the car so there was nothing supporting the exhaust other than where it was bolted to the engine heads and at the tail pipe. They also found none of the idler or tensioner pullers were replaced when the time belt was changed. James and Ed were great completing all the service in one day and for a very reasonable price. I am very glad I had my Indiana Subaru service in Evergreen, Colorado, by James & Ed at Marcy's Automotive where they have extensive experience in servicing Subarus.
