I was so hopeful that this doctors appointment would be helpful but it wasn't at all. When I called to make the appointment I speciffically asked if Dr. Loughner treated with natural thyroid medication or only synthetic? I was assured that the doctor looked at the whole picture and treated each patient as an individual. They also assured me he treats with both synthetic or natural thyroid replacement. I asked about name brand Armour thyroid medication they said that he does prescribe that as well.
I woke up at 5:30 drove for an hour in rush hour traffic to get to my 7:45 appointment only to be told he is against natural thyroid medicine! I also did not feel like he was treating me as an individual when he says "let me give you my spiel that I tell all my clients". I felt like he tells everyone the same thing so much for looking at the whole picture and treating me as my own person. I was also told on the phone that this doctor would address my b12 deficiency and that he had knowledge in this area. Again dissapointed he said he has no idea about my b12 and he didnt know who I should see for that shrug his shoukders and said "maybe a hematologist, I don't know?"
End result he told me I need more of the aame medicine that I was already taking even though I told him it didn't help. My labs are a little high right now and I know another increase is due but even when labs are optimal I still feel bad. I expressed this to him and he didn't seem to care. He told me textbooks don't match up with what I am feeling. I really could care less and I just wish I could find a specialist who feels that they to can learn from each person they treat instead of assuming they know everything based off of textbooks. We are experts as well i have had this disease for longer than he has studied it in school. I have had it days, nights, weekends and holidays, I deserve to have my opinion of what is going on with my body be as valid as your textbook opinion. Live a day in the life of a hashimotos sufferer and you might have a different perspective!
