We were highly disappointed by our consultation with Phoenix Window Restoration. After having high hopes based on their website, the impression we got is that our project had to fit into their definition of what 'restoration' looks like. We live in an 1870s farmhouse with many of our windows having the original, wavy glass. Some examples are...due to our original window hardware being covered in a few layers of paint they were going to replace them with cheap reproductions as opposed to properly stripping and restoring them. They wanted to get rid of our wavy glass and put in new, double pane windows to improve efficiency. They don't do any sash work and charge outrageous prices to only strip and paint the window itself. Essentially, they are not restorers, but replacers. The customer service was good and they did show up to the appointment on time. Just buyer beware that they're not good listeners and will end up replacing more than truly restoring. Since their largest customers, based on the example projects listed on the website, is local govt., school districts, museums, etc., they can get away with this because of bigger budgets and less expertise on the part of the person ordering and approving the work (i.e. a govt. employee as opposed to a person who actually owns the home). Word of advice: if you want it done right, just do it yourself.
Just finished a storm window installation at my house. Quality of the project and window replacement was top notch and the windows have helped to preserve the historic quality of the old house. Installation technicians were highly qualified and helped to address my concerns at every stage of the project.
